3-D Multi-scale air pollution modelling using adaptive unstructured meshes

چکیده
High resolution models of air pollution transport and transformation are necessary in order to test possible abatement strategies based on pollution control and to forecast high pollution episodes. Models are especially relevant for secondary pollutants like ozone and nitrogen dioxide which are formed in the atmosphere through nonlinear chemical reactions involving primary pollutant species far from their sources. Often we are trying to resolve the interactions between plumes from point sources such as power stations and regional pollution tides of ozone formed in other European countries. One method of tackling this problem of different scales is with different grid sizes, using highly resolved grids in regions where the structure is very fine. This paper describes the use of 3-D adaptive gridding models for pollution transport and reaction using both a layered and a fully adaptive 3-D tetrahedral approach. 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. Velocity Field Modelling for Pollutant Plume Using 3-D Adaptive Finite Element Method
Air pollution models usually start from the computation of the velocity field of a fluid. In this paper, we present a model for computing that field based on the contribution of the observed wind flow and the vertical buoyancy or momentum plume rise defined by a Gaussian plume model. This initial velocity field is adjusted to verify incompressibility and impermeability conditions by using a mas...
متن کاملA new computational framework for range of scale ocean modelling based on adapting unstructured meshes
Over the past decade there has been growing interest in the use of unstructured meshes in ocean modelling. Moving from structured to unstructured meshes offers many potential benefits for this application area. In particular the representation of any interaction between a range of spatial and temporal scales, and the formation and evolution of localised features in a priori unknown locations, c...
متن کاملA Novel Type-2 Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System Classifier for Modelling Uncertainty in Prediction of Air Pollution Disaster (RESEARCH NOTE)
Type-2 fuzzy set theory is one of the most powerful tools for dealing with the uncertainty and imperfection in dynamic and complex environments. The applications of type-2 fuzzy sets and soft computing methods are rapidly emerging in the ecological fields such as air pollution and weather prediction. The air pollution problem is a major public health problem in many cities of the world. Predict...
متن کاملLoad Balancing Strategies for Parallel SAMR Algorithms
Highly resolved solutions of partial differential equations are important in many areas of science and technology nowadays. Only adaptive mesh refinement methods reduce the necessary work sufficiently allowing the calculation of realistic problems. Blockstructured SAMR methods are well-suited for the time-explicit computation of large-scale dynamical problems, but still require parallelization ...
متن کاملModelling the formation of Ozone in the air by using Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) (Case study: city of Yazd, Iran)
The impact of air pollution and environmental issues on public health is one of the main topics studied in manycities around the world. Ozone is a greenhouse gas that contributes to global climate. This study was conducted topredict and model ozone of Yazd in the lower atmosphere by an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS). Allthe data were extracted from 721 samples collected daily ove...
